Course Correction

This time of year can traditionally wreak more havoc than cheer.  There has always been for me, a struggle with the overflowing social calendar  (work christmas parties, catchups with friends, family gatherings) and the work calendar (projects to be completed, clients who need things ‘wrapped up” before the working year is over, workloads managed to cover for work mates who have had the sense to clear out early).

There can be a tendency to go on automatic pilot just to get through to the other side in one piece.  But could there be another way?

Last year I had the pleasure of experiencing a work free Christmas. There were certainly social commitments and endless school concerts and celebrations – but it was not mixed in with the added pressure of finalising things before the calendar ticked over into “no-mans land” between Christmas and the start of the New Year.  And let me tell you – it was BLISS.  I actually enjoyed the festive season like I did when I was a kid – full of anticipation and excitement and revelling in the party atmosphere.

Add another 12 months, and I can honestly say this silly season is different again.  The end of year school commitments, the social functions (hosting 2 children’s parties within the month), my own business commitments (launching my product range to the world), tapping into creative inspiration for projects to launching in the New Year, finalising study assessment – it all feels like there’s a lot on my plate. And I will admit – my default settings – straight to automatic pilot mode.

From time to time though – I’ve been taking a seat in the co-pilot’s spot and I realised that when you are on automatic pilot mode, there’s not really anyone to check-in with your true self to make sure you are going the right way.  Course correction in life is a daily  – minute by minute even – occurrence.  On auto pilot there is no course correction. And what this looks like is you saying “yes” to more and more stuff because you are not checking in and course correcting based on what you find.

So how to then?  How do you change your default setting and incorporate mindful continual course correction?

With no easy answer at the ready, I put it out there to the Universe for a bit of guidance which came to me whilst asleep.  When I awoke in the morning, I felt compelled to record an image that I had seen in a dream, and as I drew it, a variation on a popular quote jumped into my head…

Sky above me

Ground beneath me

Love within me

To get back in the pilots seat then – you need to first connect with the Universe and your own intuition (back to regular meditation for me) and then connect with your own body – and ground yourself (meditation will help with that too! and some time out in nature, feeling the earth beneath my feet) By these simple acts, you can draw in the power from Heaven/Universe and Earth to help fuel your heart/inner self to perform at it’s peak for what it was made to do LOVE – yourself, your family, your friends, your community, your world.

An overflowing plate care of the automatic pilot’s default setting of “just get on with it” will keep you mindlessly saying “yes” without any room for course correction.  This cycle has N.O.T.H.I.N.G. to do with Love it is based on Fear.  By connecting above and below, we create space within to do as we were truly born to do – LOVE.

Here is a copy of the image I saw in my dreams.  I have added the colour via the computer to give you an idea of the colours I saw flowing through different parts of the body. There was a strong sense of peace around the face with the eyes closed and the third eye (home of intuition) wide open.

Have you every had any really strong dreams that have a gripping message?  I’d love to hear about it – as always your comments make my day.

  1. Wow, great post Lisa! I have been trying to spend a few moments in bed each morning setting my intentions for the day before I get up and caught in the busy routine. You have also reminded me to get off the computer and get on my yoga mat like I promised myself I would, so that’s where I’m going now 🙂
